From my experience (2 current cars & a friends car) venting is not as bad as some people would lead you to believe....
My gas mileage has not changed from doing this based on my calculations (not a logger, I do not have money for that)... I do not seem to be running rich according to an A/F gauge, lack of buildup, and lack of smoke (when running rich you should see smoke..), and the fact that as mentioned my gas mileage has not changed. When you reset the ECU it learns the system all over again and therefore adjusts the fuel so it isn't running rich.

I understand if you do not like this mod and can call it "Rice" or "Newbie" however it sounds much better (the sound is probably why you feel that way), it does NOT adversly effect the car, and again although I have no proven sources to site as 19gale2gGST says it would also improve airflow as well as not putting HOT air back into the system... as we all know we want the air to be cold as it is compressed more making more power.

Wrong.
your intercooler is what cools your intake air after it leaves the turbo.
the only other way to lower ambiant air tems is some sort of ducting to your filter OR by reducing under hood temp.

If you've done this on 2 cars, I feel sorry for those poor machines. A blinkly light "air/fuel" gauge is another rice mistake. it is absolutly worthless to see what your A/F is with out numbers. A digital numeric will show you much more than a "lightshow" gauge and a wide band will show you more still.
Re-setting the ecu does not change the FACT that you car is now running out of parameters.

Again I say that with out a logger you will not see the truth.

And, On my closing 2 point as to why you should never do this.
Our goal is performance, right?
Venting causes a rich condition. Common knowlege shows that the leaner a system gets the more powerful(and more likely to blow up) the car will be.
Did you connect the dots there?
The second point is that the BOV is for protecting your turbo from compressor surge. NOT FOR SOUNDING GOOD.

There really is NO WAY to justify doing a mod that takes away power(fact)
makes you more of a target for police(fact), lowers your gas milage(fact)
and makes every DSMer worth their transfer case leakage know that you are a F&F loving kn3wb...
(FACT)

Sorry.
But facts is facts.

-Dan

You implies whoever vents not you as in "boosted" , just to clarify, and stop a potential argument.

Oh and I forgot to mention the "rice" comment.
The reason that I call this the "rice" modification is because the people who do this ACTUALLY THINK THEY ARE IMPROVING SOMETHING.

and I say again...

Wrong.

The End.

I have. It does sound different, but we are not going for sound right?
I showed a 3-5 lbs per minute increase in airflow. Thats not that much, but every little bit helps.

Results where measured on my logger.

No offence to anybody, but please if you want to discuss "to Vent or Not to Vent" make another topic. This is not a vent topic but a tube cut topic. Thank-you
