a quick FREE MOD for your 1G or 2G turbo
This is a simple mod that doesnt cost anything
locate your BLOW OFF VALVE...got it... ok now you see the tube from your BLOW OFF VALVE to your intake.. that is your recirc line dont ever get rid of that...now take the recirc tube off of the turbo inlet hose...now remove your inlet hose from your MAF ....now ramove it from your turbo...also remove the other three lines attached to the inlet hose ...remember where they go...now if you look where your recirc hose hooked up you will see a lil tube going into the inlet hose now look inside the inlet hose you see how far that tube goes in there....yeah ugly huh, well DSM put that in there cuz they didnt think there buyers wanted to hear the turbo blow off cuz you know thats really annoying and all |

Yeah you will be able to hear it better, however it is also speculated but has not een tested that by taking out the extra length of tube that it will allow for a little better air flow now that the air doesn't have to go around the tube, once again the air flow part makes sense but it IS NOT proven...yet.

If you are just going for a better sound.... Totally disregard the very first step of this post.
The tube from the BOV to the Intake "Recirc Line". Take it off leave it off... Cap the intake and you are good to go... much better sound with no risk of damage and no ill effects on the car... (You may need to reset the ECU - if the engine stutters or car wants to die disconnect the battery for 30-60 minutes reconnect and the ECU will re-learn the system with this change in place)

Not to cause argument but I haven'tt seen a DSM run correctly without the recirc line hooked up unless the MAF has been relocated. Do you have yours like this?

mine is set up like that... i don't have any stuttering at all... but it is a 1g don't know if that matters or not

Yes, I have both of mine set up like this. Neither have the MAF relocated. The 99 runs better, never even had to reset the ECU on that one. The 97 stuttered and would die or almost die everytime I came to a stop at first however after I reset the ECU (as I described) the car runs fine.. the rpms are a bit low at idle but not low enough to cause it to die.

If you are in contact with any of them have them try my suggestion to reset the ECU.... If that doesn't work what are they using to cap the intake??
Otherwise... do not know what else may work... so a suggestion to anybody wanting to try this mod... DO NOT throw away that tube just in case your car will not take well to it.

this is called "venting your BOV"
It is the number one ricer newbie DSM owner mistake ever(period) A lot of people will try to justify that thier car runs "just fine" vented. WRONG. There is only one way to tell if you are really running fine and that is to verify your fuel tables with a logger of some sort. NO MATTER WHAT venting causes problems. get a logger and learn to use it. not only that but venting causes you to run very rich during shifts. this equates to poor gas milage and I don't know about you, but I am not rich and I would like my gas to go as far as possible. Cliffs notes: "venting" = "Rice","newbie","doesn't know any better" THE END. -Dan |

Umm Dan this is the one to cut the tube on the inside of the intake, not to vent it. Boosted just mentioned vetning it but the write-up is for the cut not the venting.

I know.
but I want to kill the vent discussion before it ever starts as well. -Dan |
