FREE MOD 2

All right there DSMer's did you get that intake, you know FIPK??? NO??? Well did you at least get the air filter?? Good!!! For those that can't afford the FIPK here is Free Mod number 2. Another simple mod to better your air flow and make the BOV sound better (the WHOOSH sound). This is for 1 & 2 G turbo models.

1. Disconnect the MAF.

2. Undo the top part of the air filter box and take the top part off.

3. Remove the air filter and place it in a clean area, the top of the motor(as long as its not hot will work).

4. There are 4 bolts holding the the top part on take them off. DON'T lose the bolts/nuts.

5. There are a few bolts holding the lower part of the box onto the car,.. you guessed it take them out, now throw the lower part away(unless you want to revert to stock). you will have to pop it off the side of the car don't worry it wont break.

6. Take the top part of the box and put it back on, only put it on upside down.

7. Place the air back in the top part(which is now the lower) and place zip ties on the left and right ends(the narrow not the long part) it should take 4 zip ties at each end. Zip them on there tight enough to hold the filter but not tight enough to deform it.

8. Take it out for a ride...you hear that?? Sounds good huh? You have now freed up some air flow and improved the sound in 2 free (or cheap if you don't have a junk filled garage) steps and pretty easy ones, my wife could do this(not a sexist comment my wife just isn't a car knowledgable person ..no offense to any ladies out there).

Here is what it should look like when done:

Also for you 1Ger's out there if you want to this would be a good time to remove the bottom part of the "honeycomb" material in your MAF. This will allow the air better flow through there. However don't take out the top part of the "honeycomb" if you do your car will idle like a messed up mustang with clogged injecters . Now some people will say not to remove that lower part of the "honeycomb" but there are alot of people who have and it didn't bother their car, however everyone that has taken the top part out had a crappy idleing car. If you can you would be better off to get a 2G MAF and put it on your car.

i always remove the lower honeycomb section on my 1g mafs. but also in order to run a 2g maf youll have to rewire it to work on a 1g and get bigger injectors, which also means a bigger fuel pump and some soreta fuel control like an afc or dsm link or something similiar

Pic on, I forgot to add that when you this you will have to clean your air filter more often. Not a big deal takes around 30 min, because of sit time.
